MAYBELLINE: The Perfect First Impression Mission

Tuesday, July 15, 2014

Research shows that it only takes up to 8 seconds to make a first impression.

Believe me -- I know how nerve wracking it is on the first day. Be it for work, for class or just meeting someone new, first impressions aren't always spot on, but they matter. So to avoid those awkward misconceptions, it's always good to put your best foot forward.

There are a few simple things you can take into consideration to make sure you leave the best impression.

#1 The Look

Ada Agupitan MAYBELLINE: The Perfect First Impression Mission OOTD

They say that clothes make the person. The way you put yourself together and your entire demeanor is affected by the way you dress. So one simple rule to remember? Dress to impress. Be it for meeting new friends, the first day of school, the first date or your first day on the job -- the way you dress makes all the difference.

Another way to make an impression?

#2 The Eyes

Ada Agupitan MAYBELLINE: The Perfect First Impression Mission EYES

It's amazing what a difference the eyes can make. After all, they have been said to be the windows to our soul. So change your look up, not just with your eye makeup, but with your eyebrows as well. Go for the natural look, the polished look, or the more recently popular Korean eyebrow look to go from playful to sultry to a natural beauty.

Eye makeup also does half the work for you, whether you want to appear like a sweetheart girl next door or go the extra mile with those mile-high lashes, your eyes tend to tell a lot about you.

So if one half is the eyes, what's the other?

#3 Instant Skin Perfection

Some people are fortunate enough to have that natural flawless finish. Lowly humans like us, however, have Maybelline.

Summer Foundation Routine!

Tuesday, May 20, 2014

Whoo! It's finally here! This is some pretty awkward timing -- one, because it's probably not even summer where most of my readers are and two, it's just about time for rainy season to start settling in here in the Philippines. But it's still going to be pretty hot, and the sun's not really going away so I thought I'd just go ahead and get this over with LOL. Here's  my looooong overdue summer foundation routine.

So here's a detailed overview of all the products I mentioned and used in the video! Feel free to ask me more about the products and how I use them. Then again, we all have different skin hahaha. But here's my experience and thoughts on the products mentioned :P

Celeteque's Alcohol-Free TonerSkinWhite Advanced Whitening Lotion and Etude House Flower Moistfull Cream

Foundation usually starts off with face prep. Before actually putting anything on, after I wash my face, I make sure to tone my face. My face feels fresher and more revitalized after :P I used to love using Etude's toner from their aloe line, but I ran out and they haven't restocked in ages so  had to go looking for a new non-drying toner. Celeteque's Alcohol-Free Toner was practically a god-send. It's a pretty simple formulation but it works wonders on my skin and doesn't dry it out. If you're looking for something that isn't too irritating, I recommend this.

The Philippine sun is notorious for being ridiculously hot from 9-3, the hours that I'm probably out most. I've been such a sunblock freak lately and I find that normal facial moisturizers with SPF don't really do so much for me. So I tried mixing some of this SkinWhite stuff with my daily moisturizer (Etude House Flower Moistfull Cream) for a DIY moisturizer and I must say, it works pretty well.

Carmex Protecting Lip Balm EOS in Strawberry Sorbet

This isn't really face related, but lip-care is on the top of my list this summer. It's really easy to get dehydrated and even though the rest of your face is probably dripping in oil (eww), your lips might end up chapped. Not to mention, your lips aren't exactly immune to UV rays either. My usual pick is Carmex Protecting Lip Balm, but I've been loving EOS in Strawberry Sorbet lately as well. I can't really recommend one or the other because I've read a lot of people having allergic reactions to both these lip balms. I guess it's different for every person because I've been loving these to bits.

Etude House Goodbye Pore Ever Pore Primer Essence and Stick

I don't usually prime my face because I feel like it's just another heavy layer of makeup to add on, but done in the right way, it really does help your makeup's longevity. These two variations of Etude House's Goodbye Pore Ever Pore Primer (Stick/Essence) have been my staple favorites for a very very very long time, and I'm still using them. The stick's really helps with my oil control and the primer helps me achieve a more glow-y finish.

Maybelline's Clear Smooth Shine-Free BB Stick, The Face Shop's Aqua Tinted BB Cream and Tony Moly's Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream, ArtDeco Long-lasting oil-free foundation

Foundation-wise, I've pretty much been stick to BB Creams and CC Creams. Nothing really new in my arsenal since last time. I usually rotate between three products - Maybelline's Clear Smooth Shine-Free BB Stick, The Face Shop's Aqua Tinted BB Cream and Tony Moly's Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream - from most matte to most glowy. They all have decent SPF, but give different finishes. The amount I use of each one varies depending on my skin-tone for the day. I swear, my skin tone changes like, everyday.

For days when I want more coverage though, I stick with ArtDeco's Long-Lasting Oil-Free Foundation. It's a little dark on my skin so I mix it in with a little of the Aqua Tinted BB Cream.

From left to right: ArtDeco Long-lasting oil-free foundation,  Tony Moly's Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream,  The Face Shop's Aqua Tinted BB Cream and Maybelline's Clear Smooth Shine-Free BB Stick
Because most of the face makeup I used is pretty light coverage, concealer is a must, especially if you're like me have monster eyebags. *Insert girly screech here*

Flormar Perfect Coverage Liquid Concealer

I got Flormar Perfect Coverage Liquid Concealer on sale from Watson's a few months ago and I've been using it ever since. It was practically a steal, considering how much product comes in the package and how well it covers, even with just a little bit of product. This concealer has a yellow undertone, so it neutralizes the blue on my undereyes perfectly. It's also pretty good for minor blemishes and redness around the nose area, and still comes off pretty light-weight. I LOVE it!

On days when I don't really expect to stay out in the sun long, I can totally deal without setting my makeup for a nice translucent and natural glow. But on days when I need the extra hold, setting is a must!

Sometimes I just use a loose translucent powder, but for extra coverage, I like setting my makeup with a thin dusting of Maybelline's Clear Smooth Extra Shine-Free Powder Foundation. As long as you have a light hand, and apply with a fluffy brush, this doesn't really cake up, especially if you use a really light-weight BB or CC Cream as a base.

Maybelline's Clear Smooth Extra Shine-Free Powder Foundation

Because my skin is ridiculously fickle, I compensate for any tone-discrepancies with bronzer. A good matte bronzer like Essence Sun Club Matte Bronzing Powder is really easy to use. Sometimes I play the mix and match game and mix it in with some loose powder to come up with a lighter bronzer color on pale days LOL. I honestly have no idea how the heck I'm going to finish this entire tin because HELLO??? It's friggin' huge. Price-wise it's definitely a good deal.

Essence Sun Club Matte Bronzing Powder Etude House Cupcake All-Over Colors Physicians Formula's Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Blush in Warm

I've been loving cream blushes and have been giving some new life to my Etude House Cupcake All-Over Colors (I know, I've had them for forever and haven't even made a dent in them!). But something new on my favorites list is Physicians Formula's Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Blush in Warm. I was actually really surprised when I used this because in the packaging, the pinks look pretty cool-toned. But when applied it gives such a peachy sheen and is perfect for a nice highlight! The top half is really light  and the bottom half can be used for a deeper color, but when you swirl it all together, it gives a really subtle, natural glow :) Seriously, the pictures and video do not do it justice T_T.

Physicians Formula's Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Blush in Warm, Essence Sun Club Matte Bronzing Powder in Brunettes and Etude House Cupcake All-Over Color in Orange Choux Cake Swatches
From Left to Right: Physicians Formula's Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Blush in Warm, Essence Sun Club Matte Bronzing Powder in Brunettes and Etude House Cupcake All-Over Color in Orange Choux Cake
And here's the finished product below. Disclaimer: I played with the levels because my lighting is still pretty crappy and I spot-healed the two zits on my forehead because they were ridiculously bulbous on still shots - more so than on my video. Everything else is still the same though. Please don't judge me for my insecurities. At least I'm decent enough to admit them, right? x_x

So that' pretty much it!

I really want to hear from you guys about the format of my videos. Did you like my old background setup on my update video or do you prefer the new one? I'm still trying to get my bearings so I can see which setup and lighting's better.

Also, would you guys prefer it if I talked directly at the camera or do you like the current format as it is with me voicing it over? I'll try playing with a few video formats in the future just to get a feel of what you guys prefer.

That's pretty much it! Let me know about your tips and tricks for staying fresh in the summer :) (or any other season) :) And if you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to drop me a line! That's it for now!

HUGE Collective Haul! -- U.S. Makeup Swap + Beauty Bar + Korea Haul + New Vanity Setup

Sunday, October 27, 2013

Hey guys! I really haven't been able to post much, so as you can imagine, a lot of stuff has been backed up that I really want to blog about!

In addition to my huge Etude House Pink Artiste haul from a while back, I've accumulated a whole lot of other stuff from makeup swaps, general shopping trips and my Korea Trip.

I can't possibly review them all so I guess I'd just share what I got with you and let you do the picking as to what you'd like me to review :) If you see anything you'd like me to review feel free to drop a comment! :)

So first up is a huge haul from my makeup swap with the wonderful Amanda from RiceySupreme (youtube: ahyedizzy)

Wet n Wild NYX Flower BB Cream Physicians Formula L'oreal Maybelline Haul

This haul is singularly responsible for my recent addiction to lipsticks. I've never been a lipstick junkie before, but I've been more open to exploring different colors after this haul. I'm particularly in love with the Wet n' Wild Lipsticks she sent me, especially the one in Bare it All. It's my favorite nude lipstick thus far!

Wet n Wild Lipsticks in Bare it All, Sand Storm, Spiked with Rum

I've also discovered one of my HG BB Creams from this haul. I never thought I'd fall in love with a U.S.-made BB Cream, but here I am totally in love with my Flower BB Cream in BB2. It's a perfectly yellow-toned BB Cream that's completely matte and ridiculously long lasting! It's perfect for the humid climate here in the Philippines and definitely works wonders on oily skin :)

Flower BB Cream in BB2
Another favorite from this haul is the L'oreal HiP High Intensity Pigments Matte Shadow Duo in 807 Poppy. The colors are ridiculously pigmented without being powdery and they remind me of Banana and Nutella! It's my go-to neutral eyeshadow duo and I wear it almost everyday haha.
L'oreal HiP High Intensity Pigments Matte Shadow Duo in 807 Poppy

Needless to say, everything from the swap was extra extra special, but these were the ones that totally caught my eye :)

Next up, one of my smaller hauls. I had to stock up on my essentials before my Korea Trip so I got two of my fave products in the world. The K-Palette Real Lasting Eyeliner was on sale so I just had to get it. It's my HG eyeliner and literally lasts the entire day (even longer). How do I know this? Let's just say a day-trip to Myeongdong and an overnight stay at the Airport put this eyeliner to the ultimate test ahaha. The same goes with the FairyDrops Platinum Mascara Water Proof Type.

K-Palette Real Lasting Eyeliner FairyDrops Platinum Mascara Water Proof Type Beauty Bar
And now, probably the largest haul is from my trip to Korea. I probably would've bought more, but baggage and time constraints really limited what I could get. It's a shame really, since practically all the cosmetic shops were on sale when I went there.

Korean Cosmetics Haul, Etude House, The Face Shop

The amount of samples the shops in Korea give out is ridiculous. I actually have more samples than photographed above but I set them aside for giveaway purposes *wink wink*.

I don't have a lot of individual pictures of each thing I bought becuase I haven't had the time to schedule a product shoot yet, but the things that I'm totally in love with as of now are the Precious Mineral Any Cushion, the Drawing Show Creamy Pencil in BE103, the Dear Girls Tint and Lip Balm in RD301, Rosy Tint Lips in #7 and the TheFaceShop Daily Beauty Tools Eye Lashes.

Feel free to request reviews as you feel necessary! :)

Korea is also definitely a fashion haven. I couldn't NOT come home with a few things. Plus they were surprisingly cheap! I love the fact that South Korea takes pride in their clothing being made in authentically in Korea! The make is amazing, and because they make clothes primarily for the domestic market (not for export) the price is very very reasonable, especially around college areas!

I couldn't resist getting some cute socks! Just 1000 Won each pair (~1$).

Korean Socks and Tights from Ehwa

Not to mention these ridiculously adorable Big Bang socks >_<

Korean Big Bang Socks and Tights from Ehwa

There were also an abundance of affordable skater skirts of extremely good quality for 5000 Won each!

Korean Clothes Haul

I was a bit of a cheapskate when I was in Korea because I wouldn't dare buy anything more than 10,000 Won (~10$). All these tops, tights and skirts are 10,000 Won or less (most are 5000 Won), with a few exceptions. I'm such a bargain shopper ahaha.

Korean Clothes Haul

One thing I did splurge on is a new bag and a pair of cute sneaker wedges. Can you believe the bag is only 15,000 Won??? It's extremely durable, really good quality and the leather trimmings are legit. The shoes were a bit pricey but I wasn't in the mood to bargain, so meh ahaha.

Korean Clothes Haul

And last but not least, I have new makeup organizers c/o the wonderful Miss Bella PH. I totally love their new Bella Box and Bella Tray. They are invaluable additions to my growing vanity area ahaha.

You Jelly?

Feel free to drop me any questions and requests! I have more exciting posts to come!

New Layout + Review: BRTC Gold Caviar BB Cream

Tuesday, May 28, 2013

Hey guys! I know, I know. I wasn't able to keep my promise of a post every other day but I have a good excuse, I promise! As you guys have probably already noticed I've finally changed my layout after almost an entire year! About time, if you ask me haha.

Ada Agupitan's Blog Ada No Nikki Web Design Layout

It's not as colorful as my last layout, but it's a lot more streamlined and neater than it was before. Only problem is that I'm not entirely sure about the browser compatibility with IE etc, so if you guys could do me a favor and tell me if it looks alright and what browser you're on that would be a huge help! If it doesn't look like the picture above, something terrible has gone wrong and I'll have to fix it as soon as possible. But if it does then yay for all of us! haha

So now that that's over with, I'm back with a long overdue post about another BB Cream from BRTC - their Gold Caviar BB Cream

BRTC Gold Caviar BB Cream Review

Miss Mara from Beauty and Cosmetic Shop was kind enough to send me a sample of this awesome BB Cream, and while I'm not a huge fan of caviar (unless it's the orange type you find in sushi), the concept of Caviar in BB Cream seems rather tempting, if not, just plainly interesting :)

BRTC Gold Caviar BB Cream Review
One sample size was enough to last me four uses! Not bad at all - a little product goes a long way. While the last BB Cream from BRTC that I reviewed focused mostly on moisturizing, this one focuses on full coverage and anti-aging.

Claims

BRTC Gold Caviar BB Cream Review
So why Caviar? Well, apparently, fish embryos contain a good amount of natural oils and growth factors which help skin regeneration, firming and complexion. Added to that, this BB Cream has a whopping SPF50 PA +++ - the highest SPF BB Cream I've ever tried!

Consistency, Color and Finish

BRTC Gold Caviar BB Cream Review

The consistency of the product itself is quite thick, but very blendable and the coverage is no joke! A little goes a really long way and once you've blended it all out, you get a nice dewy luminous finish without being too oily! The BB Cream achieves this without any mineral oil, an ingredient in most moisturizing cosmetics which commonly causes break outs! I had a great experience with this BB Cream and while I didn't exactly have enough to test it out for its anti-aging and whitening, this definitely kept my face in check for moisture in the short-run.
BRTC Gold Caviar BB Cream Review

Ack! But the white cast is pretty strong. It's comforting to know that it oxidizes pretty well on my skin into a nice salmon-tone, but on my hand, it turned into a worrying pink-ish shade, which makes me worry whether or not it'll oxidize well for everybody. And it took long to oxidize as well! Usually most BB Creams settle on my skin in fifteen minutes after I finish the rest of my makeup, but this one took a whole hour o_o That aside, the finish is pretty good and the coverage is exceptional. I say this will suit people with light to medium tones better than those with darker toned skin. I barely got away with it x_x

Another thing to note is that it also claims to cover up fine line (and I'm guessing pores as well) and minimize them over time. I can't say it covered my pores, because dewy finishes usually tend to highlight mine instead of covering them up, but when it came to lines, this did awesome! You guys can't tell, but I actually have fine lines starting to brew around my forehead area and around my smile area. This didn't settle into them but did a pretty good job of gliding over them to create a smooth finish!

Oil Control and Longevity
When it comes to oil control, this doesn't really claim to control oil. But it kept pretty well on my skin! I was a little bit doubtful that it'd keep well on my skin because before I set it with powder, it transferred like crazy! But lo and behold, after 4 hours, I was still pretty good. Not bad for something that doesn't really claim to be an oil controller. I'd say that over the Jasmine Water BB Cream, this one is definitely better suited for oily-combination skin, although it's not matte.

For a quick run down on all the benefits of this awesome BB Cream, here's an infographic compiled from the official BRTC site.
BRTC Gold Caviar BB Cream Review

Price and Availability
So this originally goes for 39USD but you can get this for 1200PHP (~30USD) on limited offer from Beauty and Cosmetic Shop! Isn't that awesome? And for a 35g tube of product that's ridiculously blendable it's a pretty practical buy. If you aren't sold on the product yet, there are also sample sizes available, for a cheaper price than the full-sized product upon inquiry, so you can try it yourself. Just check out Beauty and Cosmetic Shop's FB Page below!

So the Rundown:
Pros:
Medium to Full Coverage
Blendable
Covers my fine lines pretty well
Dewy finish without being too oily
All-natural oils
Didn't break me out
Ridiculously High SPF!
Anti-Aging and Whitening
Lasts pretty long on my combination skin when set

Cons:

Might not oxidize to the exact shade for everybody
Takes pretty long to settle
Needs to be set with powder or else it'll blot or transfer
White cast from SPF
Only one shade
Medicine-y smell (but it goes away after a while)

That's it for now! I hope you enjoyed this post! And now I leave you with my FOTD!

Review: Tony Moly Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream

Tuesday, May 21, 2013

Hey guys! I'm officially out of class for the next two weeks so hopefully I'll be able to get out new reviews every other day starting today! For now I'll start with some much requested reviews from my last collective haul. Most of you requested for a review on TONY MOLY's latest cosmetic offering - their Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream.

Tony Moly Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream Review

Following the latest trends in Korea, CC Cream is the follow up to the popular alternative to conventional foundation, BB Cream. While BB Cream (or Blemish Balm) offers preventive measures to skin care, including anti aging, wrinkles, discoloration, acne, etc., as well as whitening and UV protective properties, CC Cream also known as Color Control/Color Corrective Cream goes one step further and adds to that all of that corrective color adaptation which claims to even out skin tone and texture over time as well as adapting to a wide range of skin tones for good coverage across the board.

Tony Moly Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream Review

This is the first CC Cream I've tried so my expectations aren't all that high. I'm going into this with a brand new novice perspective so please forgive any newb inexperience I might display.

The Packaging
The packaging is pretty straightforward in a white cylinder-type tube with a convenient pump from which the product is dispensed. While white against black is a very mod, sleek and chic choice of color combination, it's really easy to get dirty if you're not industrious enough to keep wiping off the tube. Plus, the pump is black, so against the white/beige colored product, it's pretty easy to get dirty. This shouldn't be a problem if you're a neat-freak/busybody like me, but it's just something I'd like to mention.

Tony Moly Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream Review

It comes with 50 mL of product, which is actually not bad considering the product is really blendable and goes a long way. and for 948 PHP, I think it's pretty worth it.

The Claims
This CC Cream is supposedly anti-wrinkle, whitening, moisturizing as well as color adaptive. It's supposed to give you that unbelievable 'no makeup look' while being beneficial for your skin as well. One qualm I have about Tony Moly in general is while they list directions and ingredients in English, they don't list down the English description of the claims. But yeah, owell.

Color and Coverage
So one of the main points about CC Cream is that it supposedly offers better coverage and color match than BB Cream. I always test out foundations/BB Creams etc on my left hand because I have a very prominent birthmark on that hand (if you're observant enough you'd have noticed it in some of my other posts haha). I always judge a BB Cream by its coverage on its ability to conceal that mark and even out the tone of my hand. I'll be doing the same with this CC Cream.

Tony Moly Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream Review

So as you can see, the CC Cream starts out white with a few little speckles and then slowly starts adapting to your skin. I find that the more you rub (i.e. more friction/heat) the darker it gets, so if you blend it out and still don't get the color you want, keeping your hands on the area to warm it up. You'll see it darken in no time!

All in all the coverage is quite impressive where discoloration is concerned. With most foundations/BB Cream the color match would only really work with the more even parts of my skin, but this did a pretty good job of matching the darker toned parts with the lighter tones. Only problem is that with its SPF30 PA++, the Luminouse Pure Aura CC Cream is ridiculously reflective. I took all of these pictures with flash, but honestly without flash the CC Cream looks like my second skin. And on my face the blend-ability is above average. So it works well with birthmarks to even out skin tone. I can't really vouch for the efficacy with pimples and acne though. I've heard however that this doesn't cover up those very well, but I can't say since I don't have much I need to cover x_x.

Finish
Here's how the product looks on my skin! You can't really tell by the pictures but this CC Cream has a ridiculously dewy finish. I'm really not fond of overly dewy finishes so I had to set this with powder. The color match is pretty good if you check the first and third pictures on the face comparison below. And if you're not fond of the dewy finish either, the CC Cream works well set with powder as well.

Tony Moly Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream Review

One huge qualm I have with this CC Cream however is that it doesn't cover up pores  very well  and tends to highlight bumps on my skin because of its reflectivity and dewy-ness. I definitely recommend using a face primer before applying this to get that smooth dewy porcelain effect (if that's what you're going for. But as a makeup base or primer, this works wonders with setting powder and powder foundation. Definitely something I would look into! And while the color matches my skin perfectly in natural light, it makes me look like a ghost under flash.

This is what the CC Cream looks like with face primer and flash. Not bad, eh? But I can't really vouch for that 'no makeup' look claim haha.

Tony Moly Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream Review

Longevity and Long Term Effects
This CC Cream stays put on its own for 2-4 hours before I need to blot. That's when the fresh dewy look turns into the haggard oily look haha. With a face primer it lasted me about 5 hours before I needed to blot and with intermittent spritzes of face mist I was able to make it last for a about 6-7 hours.

As for long term effects, I've noticed a few residual spots from acne scars start to lighten because of this cream, which is actually quite surprising, as I've never experienced a product that lightens just spots. I'm not entirely sure if it's my imagination, but I've definitely noticed my skin tone evening out - especially despite the summer sun.

Tony Moly Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream Review

Oh yeah! This is also quite heavily scented. There's just something about the smell of Tony Moly Products and the way they perfume them. It's not unpleasant, but it's a little bit too noticeable for my taste haha. My friends like the scent though so I guess it's up to the person.

So in summary:

Pros:
Moisturizing + BB Cream Benefits
Adapts well to my skin tone
Very blendable
Great Coverage for discoloration!
Great if used as a primer/base with setting powder or powder foundation
Porcelain doll finish if used with a face primer

Cons:
Doesn't last as long as other products on my skin
Dewy-ness highlights bumps on my skin
Reflective!
Doesn't cover up acne very well.

In-betweens:
Scent bothers me a little, but some like it.
Dewy finish! Some like it, some don't.

Tony Moly Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream Review

All in all, this really does have better coverage than most BB Creams, but the Color adaptivity isn't quite enough to outshine my favorite BB Creams so far. I think I'll try skimming the market for some CC Creams out there to try, but as a first CC Cream trial, I can't say I'm disappointed! It's still a really good product, and I'm definitely geared up to try more after this!

So what do you guys think? If you're interested in trying this BB Cream you can find it in Tony Moly outlets near you as well as on their website!
