Etude House Play House Princess Academy and Pink Artiste 2013 Haul/Prizes + GIVEAWAY

Sunday, August 18, 2013

So after my rather lengthy post about Etude House Philippines' Play House Princess Academy, I'm sure most of you are quite interested in my haul from the actual event. I know I was! Read until the end for an exciting giveaway!

Etude House Play House Princess Academy and Pink Artiste 2013 Haul/Prizes + GIVEAWAY

It actually would have been more had I participated in some games and claimed the Blogger Press Kit, but knowing I would at the very list get 15,000 worth of products, I thought I shouldn't be too greedy haha. I'm very very blessed to be able to own these for free :P

Let's start off with what I'm most excited for from my prize winnings - this cute and convenient 3-set Favorite Collection from Etude's Moistful Cream Line which consists of Moistful Flower Cream. Moistful Collagen Cream, and Moistful Aloe Soothing Cream.

Etude House Moistful Flower Cream Moistful Collagen Cream and Moistful Aloe Soothing Cream

I've totally been needing to spruce up my facial care routine. Once I've got that down, I can probably update you all with my everyday (and night) facial routine, no matter how crude it may be haha.

Another exciting addition to my Etude House Collection is this Etude House Princess Etoinette Special Kit, which includes an Etionette Rose Brush (like a Flower Kabuki), Etionette Princess Mirror, Etionette Crystal Shine Lips in PPK02 Dewy Petal Kiss and Etionette Heart Blusher PK001 Pink Petal Kiss.

Etude House Princess Etoinette Special Kit

The box is super useful as well and can be reused as a box for general knick-knacks haha. It's so princess-y looking, isn't it? I'm definitely posting a review on this set as soon as I can, so watch out for that!

The next thing on the list is 3 sets of Etude House Party Queen Gradient Nails in Silver, Gold and Pink!

Etude House Party Queen Gradient Nails

Because of labwork, I won't actually be able to try these babies out until Sem Break, but these are definitely some exciting additions to my nail polish collection :)

My prize also came with NINE lipsticks from Etude's Look at My Lips Line.
Etude House Look at My Lips Line

I've been on the hunt for some new lip colors because I haven't really been very adventurous when it comes to lip products, so this was like having one of my wishes come true haha. Feel free to ask for reviews on any of the colors above :) I find they're all quite wearable and cute :)

And what would lipsticks be without accompanying lipgloss? I also got NINE tubes of Etude House lipgloss. Six from the Dear My Milky Gloss line and three from the Dear My Crystal Gloss line.

Etude House Dear My Milky Crystal Gloss

They just look so darn stunning, don't they? Again, feel free to ask for reviews on any of the colors above :)

The prize also came with Etude's Drawing Show Creamy Liner in BK803 (I've been waiting to try this for ages, quite timely since I just ran out of my usual black gel liner), four Drawing Show Creamy Pencils (Green, Red-brown, Brown and Beige), and Milk Talk Body Wash in Steam Milk (Totally excited to try this).

The prize also include 4 out of the 5 Sweet Recipe All Over Colors and a Face Color Corset in #5 Tight Shading Corset, which, surprisingly, I both already own (Yes, I am that much of an Etude House Buff. Sue me LOL). I also received some new blushes - a Lovely Cookie Blusher and a LUCIDarling Over the Rainbow Shimmer blush (this is ridiculously pretty guys).

What with all those prizes, you can't really go without a bag to put them in, right? I also received this Limited Edition Anika Wester x Etude House Wannabe Makeup Box/Bag. It's so cute and chic at the same time!

Limited Edition Anika Wester x Etude House Wannabe Makeup Box/Bag

That's the last of my huuuuuuuge prize from the Pink Artiste Showdown. And like the title implies, there's a giveaway in store for my readers for being so utterly awesome and supporting me all the way :)

Ada no Nikki's Etude House Giveaway

So like I said, a lot of the things from my prize, I already own myself. At the same time, I really want to be able to give back to my readers, so I've selected a few of the things from this haul to giveaway. I threw in one of my favorite cream cleansers, a Happy Tea Time Cream Cleanser in Lemon Tea.

One winner will receive all of these prizes, and the mechanics for the giveaway are simple! Accomplish the FIVE MANDATORY entries in the Rafflecopter App below and you're immediately eligible to win! Etude House Play House Princess Academy + Pink Artiste 2013

Thursday, August 15, 2013

Hey guys! This post has been put off long enough! Today I'll be blogging about my fantasmical experience at Etude House Philippines' Play House Princess Academy 2013 held at SM North EDSA The Block last July 28!

Etude House Philipppines Play House Princess Academy + Pink Artiste 2013

Needless to say, this was undeniably the pink-est event I've ever been to, and I'll be honest -- I'm not usually the biggest fan of pink, but Etude really knows how to pull it off and the air of princess-y (and prince-y) cuteness was saturated all throughout the event!

Etude House Philipppines Play House Princess Academy + Pink Artiste 2013

The Play House Princess Academy is, I think, Etude's way of saying thank you to all its valued customers out there with two days of fun activities, makeup workshops and cute pink sweets. The event played host to a number of different attendees - little kids, teens, girls who will stay forever young ;) (*coughmecough*).

Etude House Philippines' President, Andrea Amado wasn't lying when she said that Etude aims to make every customer feel like royalty. So I tried my best to live up to the occasion and dressing in my best cutesy outfit.

Etude House Philipppines Play House Princess Academy + Pink Artiste 2013 Showdown Ada Agupitan

Okay, so it's not exactly that cutesy. My makeup was pretty neutral with nude-pink accents on the eyes and lips and my hair was more of an intricate cheat than anything. And while I tried to look as cute and pink as possible to suit the occasion, my outfit turned into more of a pin-up crossover with a milkmaid than a princess haha. But really, I'm not one of those cutesy types of girls - I'd rather stay true to my style but also bring some of my own princess-y cuteness to the table :P

While engaging yourself with the various activities, you also have the opportunity of brushing up on your makeup and fashion know-how with all the workshops Etude House organized just for you!

Etude House Philipppines Play House Princess Academy + Pink Artiste 2013

Activities like Kiss the Prince were definitely a huge hit and there were free makeovers galore to make you feel like a true Etude House Princess. Not to mention you get a cute princess-y souvenir photo afterwards.

Etude House Philipppines Play House Princess Academy + Pink Artiste 2013
*Ninja Shot of my good friend, Amz from Punky Bunny http://amz88.blogspot.com/. Please don't kill me haha*

Unfortunately, I wasn't exactly in the position to enjoy all the activities of the event, having been asked to be on standby backstage. As a result, I didn't even get a chance to meet all the awesome blogger people I had hoped to see during the event itself D: *sadface*. I eventually just gave my ticket to my good friend and partner in girly-crime, Joanna haha. Full support all the way :P

Etude House Philipppines Play House Princess Academy + Pink Artiste 2013 Showdown Ada Agupitan

While Joanna was out enjoying the activities, I was backstage, being utterly starstruck at the number of celebrities there. I'm not a huge follower of local media so I barely knew anybody, but good thing Kyala, one of my fellow Pink Artiste Finalists, and her sister were there to clue me in.

Backstage with the Pink Artiste 2013 Finalists, Shebby Liquete and Kyala Cristine Oplado

I was surprised as to how down to earth all the celebrities were, and while I didn't exactly have the guts to muster up the courage to actually talk to them, let alone ask for a picture with them, at least I can say I got to see them face to face haha.

Etude House Philipppines Play House Princess Academy + Pink Artiste 2013

The event kicked off with a few words from Etude House President Andrea Amado and the bulk of the event was hosted by the lovely Carla Humphries. There were guest workshops by Ryuji Shiomitsu and the lovely Bianca Valerio, not to mention appearances by Coleen Garcia, Brett Jackson, Miles Ocampo, Paul Salas, Niel Coleta, Ella Cruz, and Dominic Roque! Whew! I'm surprised I remember all of their names LOL. Not to mention, last year's Pink Artiste, Orange Tuazon was there as well!

Despite the star-studded ensemble of guests, we were all surprised to hear that the "main event" was actually our makeup showdown.

Etude House Philipppines Play House Princess Academy + Pink Artiste 2013 Showdown Ada Agupitan Kyala Cristine Oplado Shebby Liquete

I am hardly an expert at applying makeup on other people. I can only reall vouch for makeup on myself. That being said, I tried my best to do justice to the products provided by Etude. We were all rather caught off guard actually. We were hanging on the basis of having 5 minutes to pick up and organize the products we were to use, but because of time constraints, that entire segment was cut and we had to just go straight on ahead to the actual application :P

Despite that, we all managed to finish a Glam Princess look within 15 minutes - albeit my model looked like a hot mess haha. I definitely don't do makeup well under pressure x_x

Etude House Philippines Princess Academy
Not your best angle Andie -- blame the photographer haha.

A special thanks to the lovely Andie Reyes, one of my underclassmen in college, for allowing me to ravage her face with my lackluster professional makeup skills haha. Just goes to show you how she could probably pull of any look :P Seriously, you could probably paint her face brown and she'd still look high fashion.

In the end, Shebby bagged first, I got second and Kyala walked away with third! But by the end of it all, we all felt like winners. We also felt like ants, by the way, considering how tall Bianca and Carla are. We look like hobbits in comparison haha! But like I told Kyala - we're not short. We're FUN-sized. haha

Etude House Philipppines Play House Princess Academy + Pink Artiste 2013 Showdown Ada Agupitan Kyala Cristine Oplado Shebby Liquete
Shebby's absolutely glowing, isn't she? Congrats and do us proud!

Despite not getting first, this truly had been a wonderful learning experience for me and has motivated me to try and pursue makeup to greater heights :) That way I can be the first Molecular Biologist / Makeup Artist / Fashion Model / Blogger to grace the covers of renowned magazines haha.

Also, I got to walk away with these awesome prizes. Tada~! Three mystery bags of Etude House products worth 20,000PHP!

Etude House Haul

There's still a lot more in store for me, and for my readers *wink wink*. I really would not have been able to come this far without you and your support, so I have a few things planned ahead!

Stay tuned for Part II of this series of Etude House posts, my Etude House Play House Princess Academy Haul! Stay tuned~!

Review: Etude House Happy Tea Time Aloe Tea Cleansing Cream + Pink Artiste Updates

Wednesday, July 10, 2013

Hey guys! Long time no blog. Allow me a short paragraph to explain. My skin has been on a ridiculous dry spell due to the erratic weather. It's not a breakout exactly, but I've been giving it some deep-seeded cleansing these past few weeks and I've been taking a rest off heavy makeup and trying new products just so I could let my skin settle into the new weather, so please excuse my prolonged absence x_x

On a good note however, I've finally been able to find a new makeup remover/cleanser. I've recently run out of my batch of Eskinol products so I've been on the hunt for some new products to try.

My eyes settled on this cutely packaged (agh, I'm a sucker for cute packaging) Cleansing Cream from Etude House while I was shopping for a makeup swap a few weeks back - the Etude House Happy Tea Time Cleansing Cream in Aloe Tea.

Review Etude House Happy Tea Time Cleansing Cream in Aloe Tea

The one I got was just one of three variants of the Happy Tea Time Cleansing Cream variants (they also have cleansing foam available). It's available in Lemon Tea, Milk Tea and Aloe Tea. I was on the fence as to which to get so I went ahead and asked the lady at the counter about how each one was different. Might I say, she was very helpful the entire time I was shopping, answering my questions and handing my tissues every time I needed to swatch something haha.

Review Etude House Happy Tea Time Cleansing Cream

Back to the topic - She explained that Milk Tea was for sensitive skin and was hypoallergenic, Aloe Tea was for dry skin and Lemon Tea was better for oily skin. When I told her I had combination skin she said that most of the time, they work equally as well for combination skin, so I should just pick based on the smell haha. And this is how I ended up getting Aloe Tea. #overlyhonestshopper

Price for Pruduct
Another selling point for me was the fact that one container which contained 180mL of product was just 198PHP (~4.5USD). Pretty much a steal right? So price-wise, I'm pretty happy with this purchase.

Packaging
Where packaging is concerned, it's a very minimalist screw-on container. It doesn't come with a spatula, but I have a lot left over so I'm not very concerned about that. I'm particularly in love with the lid which is matte-ish and has a cute little teapot embossed on it.

Review Etude House Happy Tea Time Cleansing Cream in Aloe Tea

Texture, Consistency and Efficacy
The texture is pretty straightforward, pretty similar to a cold cream except a little bit runnier and not as oily. I  really like the consistency because a little bit of product goes a long way and it doesn't leave my face with a layer of greasiness but rather just a moisturized plumpness (it's hard to describe).

It pretty much works on all of my eyeliners but takes a little bit of working through to get rid of my heavy duty mascara. But most of all, it's not irritating at all, so even if I get some in my eye (which I have the clumsy tendency of doing) it doesn't sting.

I've road tested a few products below just to see how well the cleanser works.

Review Etude House Happy Tea Time Cleansing Cream in Aloe Tea
1 - Etude House Drawing Show Brush Liner; 2 - K-Palette Real Lasting Eyeliner 24h; 3- Etude House Drawing Show Dot Liner; 4 - L'oreal Contour Khol; 5 - Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner; 6 - Brown Eyeshadow on Urban Decay Primer Potion

The cleanser did a pretty good job with just one run and swipe, and after a good dowse of warm water, most of the product came off. It works a lot better with wax-based products than it does with liquid based products, but it still gets the job done.

So all in all, I'm pretty content with this purchase, and its moisturizing properties have done wonders for my skin, particularly in the eye area.

So in summary, let's lay out the pros and cons.

Pros
Cheap! (198PHP for 180mL of product)
Cute packaging
Nice scent
Variants available for different types of skin
Hypoallergenic
Non-irritating
Removes liquid eyeliner, gel liner and pencil liner pretty well

Cons
Doesn't come with a spatula
Needs some gentle coaxing/rubbing when it comes to heavy duty mascara

All in all I definitely think this product is worth a try. It hasn't failed me yet.

Meanwhile, I've finally received news that I'm one of the Top 3 Finalists for the Etude House Pink Artiste Contest!
Top 3 Finalists for the Etude House Pink Artiste Contest Ada Agupitan

Yehp, you guys heard it! I'm part of the top 3 contestants. I'm honestly happy to just have been included in the top three and I honestly could not have done it without you guys ;_; Thank you so much! I'll be participating in a makeup showdown on July 28, the mechanics of which are below.

Precious Mineral BB Compact Bright Fit + Winners

Thursday, May 02, 2013

Hey guys! This is yet another Etude House review. This was much requested by some of my readers, especially since a lot of them were looking for a good pressed powder to suit the summer weather we're having so far. I'm not actually sure if this is exactly what they're looking for however, and hopefully after this review, you'll find out if this compact is for you or not :)

Etude House's Precious Mineral BB Compact Bright Fit is a pressed powder compact that integrates in its formula some of the same ingredients in BB Creams which give them their whitening, anti-wrinkling and skin care properties.

Etude House Precious Mineral BB Compact Bright Fit W24 Honey Beige Review

Claims
"Etude House Precious Mineral BB Compact contains Skin Brightening Pearl Powder and Luminous Effect with Sliding Blurry Powder and Extra Moisture Complex.  This compact is comprised of minute pearl powder particles for sheer, silky coverage and long lasting expression.  Improved texture for adhesion and brightening.
Features SPF30 / PA+++ UV protection & anti-darkening."

I think the main points to emphasize here are Luminous Effect with Sliding Blurry Powder  and Extra Moisture Complex. For people who are looking for a pressed powder to keep your face matte all day, this doesn't seem to claim to do that. In fact, purely from the description, it seems to be suited for people with duller, drier skin, for a powder that sets your makeup and keeps it in place, but doesn't dry your skin out - effectively allowing you to set your makeup but still retain that dewy finish.

Packaging
The packaging itself is utterly gorgeous. It's lightweight and cute with its pink little compact case with a pink pearl-ized finish. The powder is pressed pretty well into the compact so I haven't experienced any cracking at all. The compact opens with a convenient little push button in front, so there isn't much worry about having this accidentally open in your bag and getting powder everywhere. It comes with a pretty decent sized mirror, which is definitely a good thing.

Etude House Precious Mineral BB Compact Bright Fit W24 Honey Beige Review

On the powder, the signature 'E' of Etude House is pressed on. It's almost a shame to have to use it and have that wonderful insignia fade away.

Etude House Precious Mineral BB Compact Bright Fit W24 Honey Beige Review

The compact comes with a soft sponge-cloth hybrid applicator which, admittedly, works pretty well for packing product on. I still prefer using a dense powder or kabuki brush because I like the effect of only a light dusting of product on my skin.

Etude House Precious Mineral BB Compact Bright Fit W24 Honey Beige Review

Texture, Finish and Wear
So what makes this pressed powder different than most others. I was actually quite dubious about its "Extra Moisture Complex". I mean really? How the heck is powder supposed to moisturize your skin? But when I dipped my finger into the powder I think I sort of got a gist of how it works. The powder itself is very fine milled - which Is definitely a plus for a more even, natural finish. What's amazing though is that as it sits on your skin, it sort of 'melts' into it, but not really. It doesn't turn into a cream or a liquid or anything - it's very much a powder. But somehow, the fine-ness of it is easily able to adhere to your skin and with your skin's natural oil production, helps to give a satin-y dewy finish despite it being a powder. So your makeup is still set, but you still have that nice natural dewy finish.

Etude House Precious Mineral BB Compact Bright Fit W24 Honey Beige Review

The picture above will hopefully show you what I mean. On the left is my face with just BB Cream and the one on the right is with just Precious Mineral BB Compact Bright Fit. You still sort of get the same dewy healthy look with both, but minus the white cast, even though the powder does contain some pretty high SPF. I got mine in shade W24 Honey Beige, out of the 3 other shades. It's one shade darker than my skin tone, mostly because I assumed there would be a white cast, and I was right to choose. I think a good measure when choosing anything with SPF is to go one shade darker (but not all the time). It sort of counters the white cast effect :P And at the same time, the darker shade gives me room for when I get a tan from beach season this summer :P

Oil Control
But here's the thing. This compact is great if you want your makeup to stay in place, but still want that moisturized look. It's great for people with ridiculously dry skin, and since I have combination skin, I thought I could get away with it. But one of the biggest ifs of this product is that it doesn't really control oil very well on its own.

Etude House Precious Mineral BB Compact Bright Fit W24 Honey Beige Review

The picture above says everything, really. All my makeup's still there, but darn, look at that shiny face x_x I think it would take a little bit of blotting to get this to work for a long time, or probably some primer or an oil-controling BB cream underneath. But on its own, this powder doesn't really hold up too well on the oil controlling department.

Other Notes
The powder on this is perfumed. It's not very strong, but it's noticeable, and some may be turned off by it if it's not their thing. It disappears after a while so it's not much of a big deal in the long run. Another thing to note is that while the powder doesn't look too reflective, it might still be a problem with heavy flash photography or night affairs. But really, why would you need SPF in a night affair anyway? You're better off using another powder. This baby is perfect for the day though, from my experience.

So a rundown:

Pros
Cute Convenient Packaging
Nice, natural finish without looking cakey and dry
Not too reflective
High SPF
Very finely milled
Decent Color Selection
Sets makeup in place for a decent amount of time
Whitening and anti-darkening properties

Cons
Not very good at oil control. Thus not recommended for people with overly oily skin , or people who are looking for a powder to keep them matte all day.
The scent might not be for everyone
May still be reflective with heavy flash photography or during night affairs.

So is this compact my go-to summer powder? Not really, but when I want a little bit of coverage, but still want to look naturally dewy without having to use heavy foundations or BB Creams this is what I go to/ (Let's face it, summer's the only season where you can get away with looking just a tad bit oily. At least you have an excuse).

I recommend this compact to people who have drier skin types, because it really does lock in moisture in your skin and gives it a healthy luminous effect. I'll probably be using this powder more during the drier part of the year in August to December, but what do you guys think?

Oh! And if any of you are curious about my EOTD, here it is. I tried playing up the color a bit with this awesome shimmery light and deep blue I got from my VS Hello Bombshell palette haha. Shimmery blue on top of jet black liner has an awesome effect if  I may say so myself. I'm still trying to figure out my brows, and I'm thinking of having them shaped after my class ends this summer. But we'll just have to wait and see :P

Blue Eye Shadow EOTD

And before I forget! Let's announce the winners of my Thank You Giveaway! I'm sure a lot of you have been waiting for this, so here we go!
