UPDATES: Where have I been!?!?!?!?!?

Thursday, May 15, 2014

Whooo~! Hey guys! It's been ages, hasn't it? Almost a year if I'm not mistaken. I'm not even sure if most of you still remember me.

If yes, then booyah! Thanks for staying tuned. If not, then I'm just gonna have to regain your readership.

So the big question -- where have I been, and what have I been doing??? Well, it's a pretty long story. You can choose to hear about it in my shrill annoying voice or read more about it below.

This past year has been a huge year for me. I was on my senior year of college for my Bachelor of Science degree on Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. I had to maintain my grades to keep up my standing to graduate Magna Cum Laude, not to mention there was just a butt-load of thesis work to do. At least all that work was worth it -- I won Best Thesis :))

Arjelle Ada Agupitan 2014 Graduate Magna Cum Laude BS Molecular Biology and Biotechnology University of the Philippines Diliman
Oh, over-photoshop GradPics -- We all have them LOL
Setting aside my hobbies and blogging for a while was part of the sacrifices I had to make to get where I am now. I'm happy to say that I am now a contributing factor to our county's unemployed population! HOORAH! All kidding, aside,I plan on applying for an instructor position at my home institute before pursuing my Master's Degree abroad. I'm pretty much PhD-bound, but hey, a lot can change :P

In addition to that, one of the reasons I've been gone is because of moving. I can't say this was a really recent change, but it just took a pretty long time for me to get settled into my new home. I have this pretty new pad -- is that what kids these days call it? A pad? A hood? Whatever. New room practically = new life and new habits and a lot of getting used to.

You've probably seen some of my room from my old instagram photos and backdrops of hauls and other product shots. But I've really only gotten around to decorating and setting things in order recently. You can see most of my room in the video above, but just to show you what I mean, here's my current study-table setup.

Ugh, I know -- it's a work in progress. I have a lot of DIY things planned for my room and hopefully I can transform it into my dream room by the end of the summer. I'll be taking you guys along for the ride during this transformation and hopefully I'll have some tips and updates to share with you guys soon.

Something else that's new? I got myself a new laptop! A faster processor and more RAM means I can finally do more videos for you guys! I've really been meaning to do more videos but it was just such a hassle when processing time took 2-4 hours. Now it only takes me 5-20 minutes depending on the length and editing.

On that note, I also have a NEW YOUTUBE CHANNEL associated with my Google+ account. So if you can, please do SUBSCRIBE! I'll be posting a lot more often now that I'm able to ;)

I've also updated my twitter to @all_ada_love - just a heads up ;) go follow me if you wish. I don't post much, but I'll definitely try to :P

I'll also try to vary my posts more these days. I realized that I may have alienated a lot of my older audience because I wanted SEO or more views. I don't want to peg my blog as just a beauty blog so I'll try to bring back some of my old-school posts to regain my status as a blog that's about "ANYTHING UNDER THE SUN". Look forward to more music posts, ramblings, DIY, tutorials and personal posts.

That's pretty much it! I have a tutorial and review coming up, so keep tuned for that. I also have a giveaway planned so keep you ears peeled!

That's it for now!

Dior Lipstick LA Collection: #368

Thursday, January 17, 2013

Christian Dior Addict Lipstick from Dior Lipstick LA collection #368Hey guys! Another lazy blogging day. Been really busy, but I haven't forgotten about you guys!

I'm back with another review of another Dior product I've accumulated in my collection. This one (#368)I got from a set of 5 (the others I have given away or left at some other location), so I'll concentrate on this one instead.

Christian Dior Addict Lipstick from Dior Lipstick LA collection #368

This one came from the LA collection from a while back now, and like a lot of Dior's lipstick it's very sheer and lightweight, which some have found to be either really good or really frustrating where color pay-off is concerned.

Picture from Google Images

IMO, I love sheer lipsticks, because they're less heavy and drying on my lips (Dior lipsticks seem to be the inspiration for Lip Butters and more moisturizing and sheer formulas of lipsticks nowadays). But at the same time, my lips are pretty pigmented on their own, so I always have to either wear this on with my lips concealed or over a more opaque lipstick. Out of the five in the collection, this is my 3rd favorite. My first is the warm-toned red that comes with the collection, but I can't seem to find it D:

Christian Dior Addict Lipstick from Dior Lipstick LA collection #368

You can tell from the image above how sheer it is, especially toward the edges where the color isn't packed on. #368 is a warm toned pink which appears to have a blue undertone only because of the silver and pink glitter that comes with it. In all honesty, I wish Dior would stop with all the glitter. It totally takes away from the quality of the product, and what could possibly a wonderfully elegant lipstick turns into something that looks cheap and much too tacky for everyday wear.

I went to great lengths to get this picture at the right angle so you could properly see just HOW MUCH glitter is packed onto this lipstick. It's such a pity though because the color on its own without the glitter is such a lovely shade of warm pink that's actually wearable.

All in all, the consistency of the lipstick is great, but the glitter is more than a little off-putting. Hopefully, if I find my favorite shade of lipstick from this collection, I'll be able to share it with you guys x_x It's infinitely better.

In OTHER NEWS, I have another movie screening to attend tomorrow - this time it's Hansel and Gretel - Witch Hunters hahaha. I have a feeling it's going to be one of those movies where I'm just going to sit back, relax, and switch my brain off. Watch out for another review!

Resolutions: Heck yeah.

Thursday, January 03, 2013

Lol it's about time I got this post over with. I always hate doing posts like these because I tend to look back at them and realize what a slob I've been after having resolved to change or actually get something done. I'll be honest, most times I write resolutions, I always end up failing and hating myself afterwards, but heck, I still keep doing them because what else is there to aspire for? Resolutions keep me going in the hopes that someday I'll actually amount to something LOL.

But just so I don't get complacent, I thought I'd amp my resolutions up with the help of a trusty new 2013 YEAR PLANNER~!

Everything is Possible 2013 Planner from Fully Booked

"Less worry, more sleep. Less words, more action." That's going to be my motto for this year, conveniently provided to me by this nifty planner I got from Fully Booked a while back. You can probably tell  why I was so drawn to it. Isn't it just the loveliest shade of teal/cyan/#00b8ca?

Everything is Possible 2013 Planner from Fully Booked

Nothing better to kick start the year than a planner that tells you that Everything is possible and the braille characters for "POSSIBLE" strewn conveniently all over the pages.

This planner was pretty much up my alley from the moment I picked it up and opened it to the first page which read: "Life affords no higher pleasure than that of surmounting difficulties, passing from one step of success to another, forming new wishes and seeing them gratified."

That is exactly the pep talk I need to get my crap straight this year hahaha.

Everything is Possible 2013 Planner from Fully Booked

The planner itself is pretty pro-active with pages to get your short-term, long-term and legacy goals straight, as well as space to write daily goals, achievements, priorities, and schedules. Plus it's pretty easy on the eyes with its simplistic yet captivating typography and layout. (I'm a sucker for typography and layout). It even comes with a nifty little pocket and a garterized strap to keep the pages in place.

Everything is Possible 2013 Planner from Fully Booked

Everything is Possible 2013 Planner from Fully Booked

Everything is Possible 2013 Planner from Fully Booked

My brother bought me a set of pens from MUJI and I decided to use them specifically to fill this planner in. Hopefully it'll keep me more organized this year, and if it doesn't, at least I have a pretty little scrap/note/sketchbook to show for it haha.

I wasn't able to take a picture of the Goal Pages which help you prioritize your goals for the year, but I pretty much filled it in with stuff along the lines of:

1) STUDY MORE
2) BLOG MORE
3) SAVE MORE
4) PRACTICE YOUR JAPANESE

and a million other microactions which sort of lead up to those 4 main things.

I'll be graduating on 2014 and there is only so much time left to get myself ready for the rest of my life. Ideally, I'll be applying for an internship in the summer, and by graduation I'll be set for a scholarship for my masters in Japan/Australia/U.K. (I have obviously not decided).

I AM PUMPED.

In between that I'll enjoy blogging about my fashion and makeup escapades, as well as probably go on more fangirl excursions within the year. Apparently 2PM, SUJU and CNBlue have concerts lined up in the Philippines this year, so YAY!

So while that's yet to happen, I can enjoy my newest addition to the sickeningly cute stuff I lug around in my bag (along with my 3-year-old wallet and my Kimmidoll Collection notebook).

Oh yeah, and because this blog has been desperately lacking some of my art lately, why not have a doodle I made a few weeks back? Hahaha. It's amazing what boredom can do to you :P Yay for small-diameter sign pens and intricate detail! I should probably dig around for this and color it in some day lol.

Well, that's probably all the organization and resolution I can muster up for now. Hopefully I can see everything through and I can make proper use of this planner. And by that I mean 'hopefully I don't just scribble on it incessantly whilst procrastinating whatever productive work I should be doing'.

Tata for now! I hope everyone else keeps to their new year's resolutions, and if they don't, at least I'll have some company hahaha.

New Year!!!

Tuesday, January 01, 2013

Hey guys! Sorry about not being able to follow up properly with my other Year-End Review Post. I've decided not to push through with it because in all honesty, I'm enjoying my time with my family right now and I guess I deserve a little break of my own too right? Hahaha

I have a lot of things to blog about, and I'm so damn excited about starting the New Year right!

I have the KCON to talk about, where I got the awesome chance to meet and greet F.CUZ, and even get a hug from KAN hahaha. I won a lot of free stuff as well from my blogging, so expect some really exciting giveaways (skincare + a SIGNED CD GIVEAWAY!) Super duper happy about this.

I also have a few reviews, LOTDs, FOTDs and hair posts lined up, so you can definitely look forward to that! Just rest assured that I haven't forgotten about this blog and about my awesome readers!

Thanks for making my 2012 so awesome and special, and please continue to show your support this coming 2013!

For all your trouble, here, have some F.CUZ (I'll follow with a proper KCON post within the week, hopefully)

ONDOY rainfall versus 08/07/2012 Rainfall in the Philippines

You have no idea how many posts I had lined up for this week and the next, but to post about such trivial matters would not only be inappropriate, but callous towards my capital's needs. I know it might seem like  a burden to my international readers, but right now I'm being plagued by the feeling of helplessness at being stranded at home and not being able to physically help. So I'm doing my best to at least keep people informed.

Needless to say, the rain has not let out and is relentless. A number of independent relief operations have begun to spring up here and there (compiled list of relief operations and drop-offs), but there is only so much one can do when a number of roads are impassable.

ROADS IMPASSABLE IN METRO MANILA

So for everybody's safety. Before anyone decides to ride gung-ho in an effort to join relief operations, PLEASE THINK OF YOUR OWN SAFETY AS WELL and make sure paths leading to your target operation are clear and passable.

WHAT TO DONATE

"To everyone giving FOOD DONATIONS:
Biscuits and Peanut Butter are the BEST, as well as granola bars, chips, hard bread, jerky, bottled drinking water.

Don't give canned goods that don't have easy-open tabs, people don't have can openers
Don't give instant noodles, there's no drinking water
Don't give uncooked rice, not only is there no water, there's also no rice cooker
Don't give anything that needs to be cooked or hard to transport.

The objective is not nutrition for the next few days but sustenance. We cannot afford luxury, but we'll make do with survival."

If you must donate noodles, please try to pre-cook and pre-package and donate those only to local relief operations and not centralized operations for distribution. Sometimes, we may have good intentions but at the same time, we may just cause people problems, so make sure you know where to donate and what they need.

Is Everyone Okay? Flood Updates

Tuesday, August 07, 2012

It's been raining continuously for the past 24 hours here in Metro Manila and in other parts of the Philippines. I'm stranded here at my house and while I'm lucky to be living in a subdivision at high elevation, we still haven't been spared by the relentless rain.

Flood in Metro Manila, Tropical Storm Haikui

Yehp, that's the back of our house. Flooded. This is amazing considering our house almost never floods. Sure the pond out back overflows a little, but it's never gotten to the point where I'd have to personally evacuate my dog from her little den out back. If it's flooding at such high elevations already, I can only imagine how it is elsewhere. So far I can only build upon updates, but here's how it's like:

Flood in Metro Manila, Tropical Storm Haikui
 SM Bacoor, Cavite via @jessajofficial

Flood in Metro Manila, Tropical Storm Haikui - La Mesa Dam
La Mesa Weir via Mark Mulingbayan

Flood in Metro Manila, Tropical Storm Haikui
San Juan City via Yuan Basa

Flood in Metro Manila, Tropical Storm Haikui
Taft Ave now from FB Harison to Lawton via The Philippine Navy

Flood in Metro Manila, Tropical Storm Haikui
Waist-high waters via Erik de Castro
Flood in Metro Manila, Tropical Storm Haikui - SM Marikina
SM Marikina basement parking area via @ryan_chua

Flood in Metro Manila, Tropical Storm Haikui - Manila City Hall
Manila City Hall via Alex Da Greyt

Flood in Metro Manila, Tropical Storm Haikui
PhilCoa to  Maginhawa via @arolfleopard

Flood in Metro Manila, Tropical Storm Haikui - Marikina River and Marcos Highway
Marikina River/Marcos Hi-way via Rey Barcelon

Flood in Metro Manila, Tropical Storm Haikui - UST
University of Sto. Tomas Grounds via Jacky Querubin Corpuz
NLEX Malinta Exit  via Yhan Dumalay Ramos

Flood in Metro Manila, Tropical Storm Haikui - Marikina River
Water Level in Marikina via YouScoop
So obviously, the flood at the back of my house is nothing compared to what's going on elsewhere. With that being said, I urge everybody to keep safe and stay indoors if possible.

Mixtape Mondays: 2 Week Hiatus

Monday, July 16, 2012

Hey guys! It's a little sad to say that there will be no Mixtape Monday this week. Or next week either. *sadface*

But Why!?!?!?

It's just that I've been really busy recently (tests, lab reports and general activities) and the only reason I've been able to post is because I've had posts lined up and scheduled for publishing since last week. This week however, I was not able to properly prepare a Mixtape Monday for you guys D: I know, FOR SHAME, ADA. FOR SHAME.

But you can still view last week's playlist here.

I'll be going on a 2-week hiatus for this segment of my blog because these posts take by far the longest time to prepare (It takes me ages to find a good theme, at least 3 hours to a day to screen for appropriate songs and another hour or two to write up descriptions, embed videos etc).

I'm thinking of rebooting Mixtape Mondays to a different format and style two weeks from now, and you can be sure that by then I'll have my stuff straightened out D: I'll still be posting some music today, but it won't be an entire playlist and there won't be a particular theme. Please bear with me x_x

So to assure you guys that I'll be back with more awesome music-y goodness I leave you with one of my favorite Kpop songs: 2pm's I'll be Back.

Ada, signing out! See you soon on my other posts!
