Review: Sweet Recipe Berry Baby Choux Base

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

Whoo! I'm back and super psyched by the overwhelming response I've gotten regarding the Etude House Sweet Recipe Line! I'm glad a lot of you are enjoying reading my posts as I am making them. Seeing how excited these reviews make my readers makes the cost of all the products a little easier on the pocket haha. Yes, I purchased all of these on my own and these weren't sponsored so you can pretty much tell my excitement is really legit.

I'm glad my ice cream NOTD got such a good response, and like I promised at the end of the post, the next review will be on Etude House Sweet Recipe Baby Choux Base in #02 Berry Choux.

Etude House Sweet Recipe Baby Choux Base in #02 Berry Choux Review

Hehe, my bottle got lugged around a bit hence the messy cap, but it doesn't change how pretty the packaging is and how yummy the product looks and smells.

First thing's first lemme give you guys a rundown on the product.

The Claims
'This light and fluffy choux cream-like makeup base creates baby choux skin with its moist inside and soft smoothness on the outside'

'Recipe for Baby Choux Skin:
You need... clean skin, baby choux base, 1 spoon of Moisture, 2 spoons of Soft Smoothness'

Yehp, that's all from the packaging hahaha. I think it's pretty cute, while some may think it's tacky. This product was designed as a base for smooth complexion to act as a canvas for the rest of your makeup. The texture really is a lot like cream. If you've baked, I'd compare the texture to a less sticky royal icing - fluffy, smooth and airy. It smells absolutely amazing - like strawberry icing to be exact. When you put it on your face it leaves a faint fresh smell of berries which disappears after a while. I had to stop myself from licking the product off my fingers haha.

This product also has SPF25, PA++ so it's awesome for UV protection as well~!

How to Use
Since this is essentially a base, it's designed to be the first layer of makeup you use after moisturizing, after which you're free to apply BB Cream, Powder, Blush, etc. However, I find that on my skin, this base works best alone or with just a thin layer of setting powder on top.

Berry Choux in particular is a baby pink cream which brightens complexions. The other variants, Mint Choux and Peach Choux were designed for red-tone neutralization and yellow-toned skin respectively. Berry Choux does a really good job of evening out my skin tone, smoothing out my skin and brightening it. You can pretty much see how it gives my skin a lively glow from the pictures below.

Just eye makeup and Cupcake All Over Color + gloss on my lips because I was experimenting haha. Contact Lenses from Dull to Doll

Dull lifeless looking skin :( And yes, my face is really naturally lighter than my neck D: It sucks.

NO PROBLEM!

Bright, soft, smooth, lively skin!
Coverage and Consistency
Do you guys see the difference? I hope you do D: My camera doesn't seem to do the product justice. In real life my skin looks super glowy, soft and smooth and the product feels nice on my skin. Not oily or anything. It's almost like a semi-dewy semi-matte-ifying cream. And it doesn't just whiten. It's hard to explain. It's more like it brightens your skin and makes it look younger and healthier!

It works so well on my skin even my dark undereyes that I don't need concealer, but of course you can still use concealer as you see fit if this doesn't give you as much coverage as you'd want :) You can choose to set it with powder or not depending on the finish you want. I prefer setting mine with a very thin layer of powder for a matte yet somehow dewy finish.

Below is my completed look with my entire face covered with Berry Baby Choux, a light dust of setting powder, some nose contouring and some cheek balm :)

Eyes: Etude House Look at my Eyes Cafe Shadows + Drawing Show Dot Liner + Etude House Under Lash 33 + Kiss EverEZLashes
Face: Etude House Berry Baby Choux Base + Etude House Cupcake All Over Color  + setting powder
Lips: Etude House Cupcake All Over Color + gloss

It seems like the Berry Baby Choux has inadvertently turned me into a KPop idol hahaha. I've never had skin this pretty without pore concealer before *_*

I love my Berry Baby Choux Base!

I only really tried this base for 6 hours at a time and by then I'd needed a little bit of blotting, so I'm not sure if this would work well with oily skin. I have acne-free combination skin and this worked like a charm for me. You might want to check testers out to see if this will be amenable to your skin tone.

Just another closeup shot just so you can see how smooth and baby soft this base makes my skin~

Hahaha. What sorcery is this!?!? I couldn't help but take advantage of the combination of my makeup, hair and outfit to camwhore. Don't judge me LOL.

Ada Agupitan Etude House Sweet Recipe Baby Choux Base in #02 Berry Choux Review

And I'm not sure if this was just me, but at the end of the day when I washed the product off, my skin felt soooooo smooth and soft afterward, and it was also visibly brighter. This has been consistent, so I'm not so sure if it's part of the effects this gives or if there's just some special magical reaction of the ingredients to my skin ahaha.

Hmmm, other than that, there seems to be something else different about my face today. Don't I look more naturally flushed and colored? Hohoho. It's all thanks to Etude House's Cupcake All Over Color, which I'll be reviewing on my next post (ALL FIVE COLORS!). Stay tuned!

So what do you guys think? Hope I didn't bother you guys too much with my vanity LOL. These are now available in Etude House Boutiques in the Philippines. So go ahead and check them out! I might review the other variants when I get them, so I hope you all look forward to that!

Ada Agupitan said...

Awww shucks. This did wonders for the texture of my skin :3 so baby soft :D

Ada Agupitan said...

You should! It's widely raved about even in Korea.

Ada Agupitan said...

I want to try it too, but I don't exactly have much redness to correct so I'm afraid it might make me look green, but that's what reviews are for right? haha

Ada Agupitan said...

Yeah D: so far Etude only distributes to a few Asian countries. Hopefully they expand worldwide. Otherwise, there's always online :)

Ada Agupitan said...

You should! I hear Etude got some new stocks so it should be available now! :)

Ada Agupitan said...

I had my eye on it for awhile. They're advertising and marketing is just so good! You can't resist! Thanks for following!

I know - I totally blew my wallet to smithereens on this collection haha. But I rarely splurge so this was my treat for the semester :P If I were to choose just one thing to get from the entire Sweet Recipe Collection though, it'd probably be this haha. Also, thanks on the compliment >_< although it's probably just the product and lighting haha :)

Thanks for dropping by!

I have no.1 and 3 which is the peach and green, I really love it! At first I'm really not convinced as I think it won't suit my skin. But when I tried to lather them on my face! Oh my gosh I instantly look so fresh! I can wear it alone honestly! I'll be doing my review with this one pretty soon :)

Ada Agupitan said...

Awww, thanks. I wouldn't say flawless though haha. I think this product just really suited me very well! Thanks for dropping by~ :)

Ada Agupitan said...

Oooooh. I really want the peach one. The green I can probably do without because I don't have much redness, but I might get it just for the sheer need to complete the collection hahaha. I was actually expecting a lot of the product because of the reviews and marketing with Krystal and Sulli and I wasn't disappointed~ This was really awesome on my skin haha. Sana bagay rin sa akin yung Peach haha. Can't wait for your review! Pa-link pagka na-post na! :)

You know what ada? You always make me go back to etude house!! Haha you and your wonderful reviews keep me coming back :)) where can you buy those falsies? They look really pretty as well! :)

Ada Agupitan said...

628 ata siya :) if you have a pink membership card you can get a discount. alternatively, you can wait til EH gets 200,000 likes because they'll have a sale for everything 20% off if I'm not mistaken.

My lipstick here is actually Etude House's Sweet Recipe Cupcake All Over Color in OR202 Peach Sugar Cake mixed with OR202 Orange Choux Cake. It's a lip color, cheek color and eyeshadow color all in one. I topped it off with Maybelline SHINEsensational Lip gloss in 05 peach :)

Ada Agupitan said...

I got this at my local boutique for 628PHP (Approx 15-16 USD). I'm sure you can find it for cheaper, but be careful because some blog shops are marking up ridiculously high D:

Gen-zel D. Habab said...

Hmm medyo mahal pala, tama! I'll wait for the sale ^_^ Hmm ang dami kaya pala ganda ng result niya sa lips nice! ^_^

Ada Agupitan said...

I'm glad I was properly able to convey how much I really did like this product :P Honestly, it's not my blogging skills, because if I didn't really love the product, it would probably show in the way I blogged about it hahaha.

These falsies are a combination of 2 (for the top lashes). The base for volume, I used Kiss EverEZLashes that I got from an international giveaway and I paired them with long demi-lashes from Daiso. The bottom lashes are from Etude House :) I got them on sale :)

oh my god , i want it very much !make your skin like a baby ! butttt , can i use this ? my skin is oily btw :(

Ada Agupitan said...

Hmmm I wouldn't really recommend it for super oily skin, but it does has a bit of sebum control to it. You might need blotting over the day, but the thing with this one is that it really promotes a dewy finish over time. Hope this helped!

Helen Blas said...

Your skin! It's flawless! <3

Haha I wouldn't exactly say flawless, but the product does make it seem like it is! :)

I've been trying to decide between the Berry and the Peach base, and now I've finally settled for the Berry one ^^ I love your review! It's very helpful ^^ Thank you very much! :)

i'm jealous of how flawless your skin looks huhu. mine is just pores, pores everywhere.

the baby choux bases have been at the top of my wishlist forever, though I'll be buying it in mint and peach. thank you for the review ^^

Ada Agupitan said...

Thanks for the input! I'm really glad this review helped! Hope you find the product as awesome as I did! :)

Ada Agupitan said...

Haha. I think the camera really just caught my skin on a good day! Skin is really moody that way. Sometimes it's nice a moisturized but sometimes it flakes on you :P But thanks. Pores, unfortunately are genetic, but there are a lot of minimizing creams out there if I'm not mistaken. Either way, it doesn't really make you less attractive in any way. That's what makeup is for haha. Fakin' it 'til you make it haha.

Mint and Peach are also next on my want list, mostly because I want to complete the collection. I don't have much redness, but there are just those days when my skin flares up, so Mint in particular will be really useful!

BTW. Awesome blog! I've followed :)

I have morena skin, typical pinay. What variant do you think should I choose - peach or berry? Thanks. :D

Ada Agupitan said...

No problem! Sorry for this 3-month late reply! My email got backed up haha

Ada Agupitan said...

Thanks for dropping by! Glad you enjoyed this post :)

Ada Agupitan said...

All of the variants are rather light, but fade into the skin. And since they're bases, applying a BB Cream of your color should help make the color blend into your natural skintone.

BUT If I were to recommend one for morenas, Berry actually gives less of a white cast (it's more transluscent). But it's all dependent on how much you apply :) Hope this helped!

Jaree Romero said...

Wow, im planning to buy berry coz my friend said its the best, thanks for the review ^^

Ada Agupitan said...

I prefer Berry as well! I like the scent of Peach the most, but it's too light on my skin to be worn alone, so I really use it under BB Cream. But for Berry, I can wear it alone with a light dust of setting powder :)

Rissa Noma said...

scented products always cause me pimples but I really want to try this. hehehe.

Ada Agupitan said...

From what I know mostly naturally derived yung scents nito (kaya siguro ang pangit ng scent ng mint ahaha), pero may kaunti ngang fragrance. I haven't experienced breakouts with this at all, but maybe reading other reviews about it can help you decide whether or not it's suited for your skin type :)
