FOTD: Cinnamon Apple Pie

Wednesday, December 19, 2012

So a few days back I posted my first ever FOTD -  a very simple, natural look IMO. That's usually how I wear my makeup, minus the dramatic liner in favor of a mute brown gel liner.

This time, I thought, 'What the heck, why not experiment a little?" I have all these palettes with rather loud colors, but I never really wear them, so it's such a waste. I guess even if I experiment in the house, at least I'll be able to make use of them right?

The funny thing is, I actually ended up wearing this look out, and people gave me a lot of compliments about it haha. I think it makes me look rather old, but in the words of a kind saleslady, it makes me look sophisticated and chic. Haha.

I probably won't be wearing this look out any time soon because it's a lot more eye makeup than I'm used to, but why not run through the look for the sake of it?

Eyes
When wearing shimmery pigmented eye makeup, it's always good to keep a primer handy. That's why I made sure to use my Urban Decay Primer Potion in Original. It prevents staining of the skin on the eye area, which is so common because the skin there is especially thin, and at the same time, it makes sure that your colorful makeup doesn't go astray - which would be a total no-no in the case of this look. I'd probably look like I had a bloody black eye if that happened.

I used a variety of shadows for my eyes - so many I can't actually keep track. What I'm pretty sure of is that I used a warm golden tone for my inner third, and proceeded to create a gradient with a bright orange, red and then deep violet mixed in with a little Creep from the NAKED palette (which I just got recently! A post on that soon!). It turned out better than expected really.

My brother told me it reminded him of a sunset, but when I look at it, all I see is red apples and cinnamon. Haha can you tell that I'm totally into the holiday mood? I may not celebrate Christmas, but heck, I can still enjoy the food right? And the first thing that pops into my head when this time of year comes around is lit cinnamon-scented candles and the wonderful redness to them. Add a little bit apple and you have my favorite baked confection.

Lips
As usual, I'm not too fussy about my lips. I'm not someone who can pull of a strong matte red lip because I have a feeling my lips are too full for that look. So I settled for a nice apple-red lip gloss for Christian Dior. It surprisingly stays for quite a long while and it has a cute little sparkle to it as well.

Face
This was one of my firsts finally trying out Fairy Drop's Candy Bar BB Cream (review coming soon!). It's been on my wishlist for quite a long time but I only got around to buying a week ago when it became available at Beauty Bar. Might I say, it's absolutely amazing. It might not be as light as my fave BB cream from theFACEshop, but the fact that it's SPF-free totally does wonders when it comes to camera work. No unsightly grey or white cast whatsoever! But this isn't a review so I'll save the rest for my actual post haha.

I took a more toned-down alternative when it came to blush because there was already so much going on with my eyes and my lips. I also chose to contour my nose a bit lighter than I used to, lest I look like one of those avant-garde models on the high fashion runway. This is supposed to be a wearable look after all.

All in all, this look is perfect for the holidays if you celebrate them and is surprisingly a lot more wearable than one would expect. I don't think I'd have any qualms submitting this as my first contest entry to Celline from Product Arena's Holiday Makeup Contest. So what do you guys think? Do I stand a fighting chance?

I have another look coming up soon - this time with a complementary outfit, so make sure to stay tuned. I also have those reviews on my new BB Cream and Palette and a new set of brushes that I am uber excited about. So watch out for those as well!

Also, one more thing:

Could you guys do me a huge favor and like my entry to Props Tools & Cosmetics' contest?

"Natural Beauty, for me, is looking at the mirror every morning, smiling, and being happy that you are who you are, and thereafter proceeding to do a small fist pump, your little morning dance (admit it, everyone has one, even if it *is* just a little tune in your head) and then getting ready to be whoever you want to be for that day.

Natural Beauty is thus something that is built upon, improved and always stays with you no matter what you want to look like or who you want to be for the day, for a week, or even a lifetime - it is you to the core.

Styles, fads, and obsessions, let's face it, they all change. I could wear a Gothic look one day and a pristine clean face the other; makeup is after all a tool of artistry, drama and emotion. It changes according to your mood and your psyche, but the palette that you build those upon is your soul and identity -- your Natural Beauty. Whether you're a kid at heart, or just somebody looking to find themselves along the way."

You'd be doing me a huge one-up. Thanks!

Thanks Katrina! That's so incredibly sweet of you :) I try to put a lot of effort in the presentation of what I post because I don't want my readers to be looking at a giant wall of text (which tends to happen because I go off on tangents a lot when I write). Of course I'll check your blog out! I love making new friends and acquaintances with the same interests as mine. Thanks for dropping by!
